ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK DRIVER TANNER FOUST FINISHES WITH SILVER AT X GAMES 17 AND CLINCHES TWO GLOBAL RALLYCROSS TITLES

LOS ANGELES, Calif. July 31, 2011– Rockstar Energy Drink Driver Tanner Foust capped an eventful weekend of competition at X Games 17, as he received his sixth medal in as many years. The defending gold medalist took Silver in the Super Rally Final on Sunday, as his Rockstar Energy Drink teammate Brian Deegan took Gold, while Ford Racing mate Marcus Grönholm with Bronze, sweeping the final for the Ford Rallycross team.
The two Rally Car events are the only four-wheel motorsports ever to be included in X Games and the non-stop action, paired with an incredible, 70-foot gap jump feature on the course have proven wildly popular with fans. X Games is the largest event on the global action sports calendar, with ESPN delivering live coverage to 175 countries over four days and a reach to more than 382 million.
Though he began each race with the fastest qualifying time, Foust’s 575hp Rockstar Energy Drink Ford Fiesta experienced crippling drive train issues during Saturday’s Rallycross quarter final, resulting in a fourth place finish for the defending champ. His talented team of mechanics, Olsbergs MSE of Sweden, worked into the night to repair the damage, allowing him to compete the following day. He kept fellow Ford Racing teammate Marcus Grönholm at bay with an inspired drive on Sunday, and a flat tire for the last two laps.
“I have no doubt that I have the hardest working team in the sport.” Foust said. “It almost seems like these guys want to win more than I do, and their dedication was key to putting Ford at 1, 2, and 3 on Sunday.”
The RallyCross and Rally Car Racing events held at X Games 17 were the final points-paying races of the championship series. Foust overcame a controversial reversal in results at the Pike’s Peak event, and a highly competitive field at X Games, to maintain series points leads over his closest competitor Marcus Gronholm in both the Rallycross and SuperRally categories of the GRC to secure the championship.
.
This weekend, Tanner returns to the biggest race series of his year, and heads to Belgium to maintain his current points lead in the European Rallycross Championship (ERC). Revered as the most competitive rallycross series in the world, the ERC is a sprint-style, mixed-surface rally car racing series wherein several highly modified compact vehicles square off in exciting wheel-to-wheel competition.
